THE Material Girl won't be able to "Justify My Love," but Madonna's other videos will be in the spotlight during MTV's "Madonnathon," which runs from 11 to 4 p.m. today and 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
In addition to featuring her other music videos, the program will include "Breakfast with Madonna," a Tokyo interview in which the singer discusses how personal experiences influenced her "Like a Prayer" album. It will be shown at 3:30 p.m. today and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. MTV will also air a special edition of "Rockumentary," in which the singer discusses her rise to the top of the charts, at 7 p.m. today and 10 p.m. Sunday.
After hyping its world premiere of "Justify My Love" with snippets of a writhing Madonna last weekend, MTV this week abruptly chose not to air the video after viewing it in its entirety, according to wire service reports. The video reportedly features bisexuality, cross-dressing and mild sadomasochism.
Although the channel regularly shows heavy metal videos that feature scantily clad women bumping and grinding and musicians clad in chains, Madonna's video apparently was something even the often permissive MTV couldn't handle. "In its current form, this one is just not for us," spokeswoman Carole Robinson said in a written statement.
The video will be released for sale in mid-December.
